Pediatrics Department

The Department of Pediatrics at Dar Al Shifa Hospital offers comprehensive healthcare services for children from new born onwards in a child-friendly ambience. Scope of Services:  

  • General Pediatric: It provides full spectrum of services for pediatrics on both inpatient and outpatient basis for routine as well as complex diseases such as common flu, asthma, gastroenteritis, and throat and ear infections. In addition, it offers routine health checkup and immunization throughout various stages of growth and development.
  • Pediatric Cardiology: This sub-specialty concerns with diagnosing and treating congenital and acquired cardiac abnormalities including arrhythmias, chest pain, lesions in the heart, and pulmonary hypertension.
  • Pediatric Gastroenterology: This sub-specialty deals with diagnosis and management of a full spectrum of gastrointestinal disorders. Endoscopies and colonoscopies are performed to manage different cases such as foreign body removal (coin and fish bone), biopsies, polyp removal, PEG tube insertion and replacement. In addition, special program for obesity management is offered in coordination with clinical nutritionists.
  • Pediatric Nephrology: A sub-specialty that offers services for an array of congenital and acquired renal disorders such as nephritis and nephritic syndrome.

  • Endocrinology: Effectively manages endocrine disorders in children and adolescents including growth abnormalities and obesity, diabetes mellitus, thyroid and adrenal disorders.
  • Orthopedics: Specialized in diagnosis and management of congenital, developmental and acquired musculoskeletal conditions in babies and children such as clubfoot, fracture, limb and spine deformities, and developmental dysplasia of hip.
  • Ophthalmology: It offers medical and surgical treatment of a range of eye disorders in children such as eye infection, refractory errors, squint, and blocked duct.
  • Urology: It provides medical and surgical management of a wide spectrum of congenital and acquired urological problems in children including urinary tract infections, enuresis, uropathy and correction of hypospadias and undescended testes.
  • Neurology: It deals with diagnosing and managing inborn and acquired disorders of central and peripheral nervous system in childhood such as cerebral palsy, Erb’s palsy and epilepsy.
  • Surgery: It offers an array of surgical interventions such as toe nail excision, tongue tie release, circumcision, hernia repair, tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy and Ventriculoperitoneal (V-P) shunting.
