The department of Ophthalmology at Dar Al Shifa is the only center in Kuwait that offers comprehensive ophthalmic services for all age groups. The department is staffed by a skilled team and equipped with the state-of-the-art diagnostic and imaging equipment that detect eye diseases at their earliest onset.
Our comprehensive program provides patients with quick and smooth access to specialty and subspecialty care for a wide spectrum of eye disorders ranging from the routine to the complex. Scope of Services:
General Ophthalmology:
It covers full examination of the eye and periocular tissues for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
Subspecialties:
- Refractive Surgeries: It offers tremendous benefits to correct conditions such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. Visumax is available at DASH to perform refractive surgeries and FEMTO-SMILE for better quality of vision, especially with higher degree of myopia, and less dry eye as there is no flap created.
- Cornea: Corneal Transplantation for corneal disorders.
- Cataract: Cataract surgeries aim to remove the cloudy natural lens and replace it with an Intra Ocular Lens (IOL). At DASH, Phaco emulsification is performed (no stitch surgery) and a foldable IOL is inserted. There are multiple IOL choices available for the surgery.
- Glaucoma: A thorough investigation for the patient is performed using Perimetry, Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) after which treatment is provided to the patient to prevent loss of vision and maintain quality of life. Surgical management of glaucoma using the latest glaucoma valves.
- Vitreoretinal Surgery: Medical, surgical and laser treatment of vitreoretinal disorders such as diabetic retinopathy. It also includes intravitreal injections for retinopathy.
- Pediatric Ophthalmology: Medical and surgical treatment of eye disorders in children including strabismus, double vision and other disorders of eye alignment and movement.
- Oculoplasty and Reconstructive Surgery: It includes cosmetic, corrective, and reconstructive surgeries of the eye. All kinds of cosmetic surgery such as blepharoplasty, lid repair, and tear canal surgery are performed.
- Dry Eye: Treatment of dry eye with the latest technology using Intense Pulse Light.
- Neuro-ophthalmology: Medical and surgical treatment of neurological eye disorders such as multiple sclerosis and optic neuritis.
- Optometry Services: Conducts eye examinations and provides solutions to correct refractive errors in the forms of contact lenses and glasses.
